A Claude Monet Haystack Painting Sold for a Record $110.7 Million at a New York Auction

(NEW YORK) — Certainly one of Claude Monet’s iconic work of haystacks has fetched a document $110.7 million at an public sale in New York.

Monet’s “Meules” offered at Sotheby’s sale of Impressionist & Fashionable Artwork Tuesday evening. The public sale home says it’s a world public sale document for the artist and the primary work of Impressionist artwork to cross the $100,000 threshold at public sale.

The 1890 portray is certainly one of solely 4 works from Monet’s acclaimed “Haystacks” sequence to return to public sale this century, and certainly one of solely eight examples remaining in personal fingers. The 17 others reside at museums, together with the Metropolitan Museum of Artwork and the Artwork Institute of Chicago.

The earlier homeowners had bought the portray in 1986 for $2.53 million. Sotheby’s didn’t present any particulars on the brand new purchaser.
